Miami Beach. A magical land flowing with sand, waves, cocktails and boobies. A mecca for sun worshippers the world over.
But perhaps the most unique attraction of Miami is that the architecture has not changed much since it’s popularity exploded post WWII, despite undergoing some serious developments since.
It is commonplace for most buildings – even new buildings – to take on an art deco facade and design because a) well, it just looks ace; and b) to match the rest of the neighbourhood.
I’m pretty sure Miami Beach has the highest density of art deco buildings in the world. If that’s not true it’d have to be pretty damn close. It would actually be surprisingly easy to not notice them all because the buildings blend pretty seamlessly into the beachy, laid back vibe that Miami Beach advertises.
Related: you’ll need to eat while in Miami, and Maria Abroad has some great suggestions.
After a while it just becomes normal that this is what all buildings look like. You will walk for blocks in a time capsule back to the 1930s. Some people even go the extra mile and have cars from a similar era that match their building. These people will never leave Miami Beach.
Of course, there’s plenty more to do in Miami than just look at the pretty buildings, but that’s an article for another day.
Ok that’s enough words for now. Let me take you on a quick walking tour of some of my favourite buildings I found while wandering the beach and the streets of Miami.
Now you’ve seen how beautiful and unique Miami Beach is, I can imagine you are only ready to book. Use Booking.com because they have free cancellations on most bookings. I’ve cancelled with them before and it’s so easy to do.
