One of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been to is Lake Louise in Alberta, Canada. A relatively small lake but it is framed by two towering mountains on each side, sprinkled in snow or kissed by the sun.
By winter it is frozen. Covered in ice sculptures, frequented by ice skaters.
By summer the bright blues reflect the brilliant greens in a stark contrast to the pure white glow of the winter.
There are many hiking possibilities, but I opted to just soak in the views from either the warmth or the shade of the Fairmont Hotel plonked on the shore.
The stream on the way in from the car park is a start contrast between the seasons. Snow cramps the creak’s style as they jostle for real estate.
Lake Louise Ice Sculptures in Winter
Obviously there is no comparison of ice sculptures in winter to… I guess no sculptures in summer, but they are incredible works of art nonetheless so it would be remiss of me not to include a few shots.
If you are travelling through Calgary and Banff National Park the thought of passing up this area of incredible natural beauty would be mind-bending. I was lucky enough to have gone there twice within four years, but it was two completely different experiences.
On your way out, stop in at Moraine Lake for equally breathtaking views and turquoise water that would rival any Pacific island. I only visited Moraine the second time I went (in summer) and I rated it as highly or better than Lake Louise. And next time I go I’ll do more than wander in the shadow of the Fairmont and I’ll spend a day at Lake Louise exploring the hiking trails beyond and exploring more of what this spectacular area has to offer.

This place looks great in every season Luke! I think I’ll have to put in on my bucketlist! :)
Definitely do that Liesbeth! It’s one of my favourite places in the world.
do you live in Calgary right now?
Unfortunately I don’t anymore. I loved my time there but I’m back in Australia now.
I like this place in summer as well as in winter! Never been there though but your pictures look amazing! :)
